“America, for me, has been the pursuit and catching of happiness.” – Aurora Raigne

I love coming to visit America … Ever since I was in high school I’ve always wanted to go over. I plagued my GCSE German class with the phrase ‘letzen sommer, bin ich nach America geflogan’
A simple phrase which was perfect for GCSE level German. Translated it means, ‘last summer I flew to America’. Obviously it wasn’t correct as the first time I went to America was when I was 18/19 (3 years later).
That first trip I fell in love with the place. The food, the drinks (the exchange rate), the attitude, the weather etc
Everything I loved about the world was in America. At the time I had a huge thing for superman, I loved Oakley sunglasses and bought a pair and now am up to about 6 or 7 pairs.
I went every year since then up until 2008. After I left uni I didn’t have the student loans coming in to be able to afford going so we stopped for a bit. Until this year, 2011. This year was the first time in 3 years that I could afford to go (well I really wanted to go so I made sure I could save up). The main purchase on this trip was the iPad 2 (which I am using to write this blog … LOVE IT!!!) but things had changed since the last time I had come. Since it had been 3 years since my last visit the changes came as a shock as they weren’t gradual but just … Different. Don’t get me wrong I still love the place and I would come again (mainly for the shopping). I think next time I need to branch out a bit … I feel I have grown a bit old for the magic of Disney and Universal (haven’t been to magic kingdom at the time of writing this) and 2 weeks seems like forever atm.
I do want to try New York, and California and maybe even Las Vegas and Boston etc. I also do want to travel to Canada, from what the residents have told me on twitter it is a pretty awesome place and I have to see this before I die. As I lay here writing this, writhing in the soreness of my sunburnt back, I can’t help but think what this trip has meant for me. I’ve discovered I want to learn to drive (mainly so I can be 1 step closer to driving a camaro and looking damn cool doing it) and want to branch out further into America and see it for what it really is, instead of a tourist attraction Orlando (still love the place tho).
Also this trip, I saw a sunrise for the very first time … Being in England (and with the sun rising at stupid times in summer) I haven’t been awake (or high up enough) to see one. It was amazing … So pretty and it rose so quickly. On that note I think I will leave you a picture and finish this off until I’m on the plane home and maybe writing another one, comparing the differences between America and Britain (from what I’ve seen and noticed and believe to be true).
Tis is the view from our room.
